Upfront and honest: 5-MeO-DMT is not legal in the Netherlands, and we do not sell it. This is an educational piece. We mention it because the name causes confusion: it resembles ordinary DMT, but it is a different substance with a very different experience.
What is 5-MeO-DMT?
5-MeO-DMT is a tryptamine, just like DMT, but with a small change in the molecule that shifts its action considerably. Among other places, it occurs in the venom of a certain toad and in some plants, and it is also made synthetically. Like smoked DMT, the experience is short and extraordinarily powerful.
The God molecule
Where ordinary DMT is called the spirit molecule, 5-MeO-DMT has picked up the nickname God molecule. That comes from how people describe the experience: not as a journey full of images and beings, but as a total dissolving of the sense of a self, a feeling of unity that no words can capture. Whether that is a deep truth or an effect of a powerful substance is a question science does not settle.
How does it differ from ordinary DMT?
That is the big misunderstanding. Ordinary DMT is known precisely for its vivid imagery and the machine elves. 5-MeO-DMT usually does not have that: less visual, more an overwhelming feeling of dissolving. Same family, completely different experience. You can read the basics about ordinary DMT in what is DMT.
An honest note about the toad
Part of the 5-MeO-DMT comes from the venom of a toad, and the growing interest has led to concerns about the excessive harvesting of these animals. It is an example of how a hype can put pressure on a species. Something to be aware of, even if you would never use it yourself.
